About us
We were both brought up in a rural environment and have always had dogs in our lives as pets and as working dogs. Generations of my family were Gamekeepers and we always had working terriers and gundogs. Fiona has a background of horses and working with livestock so her previous dogs were pet and working Collies and a German Shepherd. Fiona used to show her horses and compete in three day eventing and showjumping. She also used to show Highland Cattle! After a couple of years without any dogs we began searching for a breed which might suit us both. The character and ruggedness of the French hounds really appealed to us. Our involvement with GBGV's began only 9 years ago when we were lucky enough to get Fern from Stella Blackmore who also lived in Perthshire at the time. As a puppy Fern was originally destined for Ireland but could not leave the country due to the outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease at the time which restricted the movement of animals. Stella let us have Fern on the understanding that we would try showing her as she believed Fern was an exceptional puppy. Over the years Stella has been proved right as Fern has continued to be very successful in the show ring and has became a UK champion & Irish Champion, and now at the tender old age of 9 years she has just become the World Veteran Winner in Denmark!
